A number of police officers in Kyrgyzstan have lost their jobs after a truck ran over children at a festival in the Suzak region in the south of the republic, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Department of Internal Affairs) of the country's Jalal-Abad region said told reporters on Saturday.

On Thursday, a Hyundai Porter mini-truck parked in a parking lot suddenly began to move and, rolling down a slope, hit children who were preparing to recite the Kyrgyz national epic “Manas“ as part of a festival in the Suzak region of Kyrgyzstan. The driver who delivered several boxes of ice cream to the party was not driving at the time of the accident. As a result of the disaster, 35 children were injured.

„The interdepartmental commission established to investigate the incident in the Suzak region has published the results of an investigation against employees of regional internal affairs bodies for failure to maintain the required level of security during the event and carry out appropriate preventive work,” said a representative of the press service.

According to him, the head of the Department of Internal Affairs (OVD) of the Suzak district and his deputy, as well as the head of the police department of the village of Oktyabarski, serving the territory where the event took place, were removed from their positions.
“In addition, disciplinary measures have been taken against the chiefs of the Jalal-Abad District Internal Affairs Department and officials of the Road Traffic Safety Department of the Suzak District Internal Affairs Department”, the Internal Affairs Department clarified.

Earlier, on the instructions of the president of the republic, Sadir Japarov, ten children who were injured in the collision and were in a serious condition were transported to Bishkek by a special plane. The head of state ordered that the necessary drugs be provided and that they be left under 24-hour medical supervision.
